printf: What were your motivation to choose studing and working in computer science area?
Bruce: I have liked computers since the 1970's. I used a dial up modem from my High School to a DEC 8 making games. I just love to program.
printf: What were your academic steps until become a professor in University of South Australia?
Bruce: You start as a Lecturer, and then you become a Senior Lecturer, then an Associate Professor, and finally a full Professor.
printf: Thanks to your studies, today you're a reputed researcher and known all over the world, however, were there any moment that you felt unmotivated in relation to the studies, for any reason?
Bruce: The biggest activity that helped me was working with students. I started working with undergraduate students, and I still supervise undergraduates today. I formed a small team of talented students, and we started making backpack AR systems. The lab grew with PhD students, and now we have fulltime researchers in the lab. It is all about the people.
printf:A good amount of "printf" magazine readers are computer science students, therefore, what are your tips for those who want to follow the academic career?
Bruce: Have passion and fun with what you want to follow. You are going to be spending a lot of time doing the work, so might as well enjoy it.
